For those of you who don’t speak Swedish, my apologies in advance. Heinz Sweden and CP+B Europe have created this app which translates your status update or any (Swedish) message you would like to send to a friend into traditional, “old Swedish” – spelling and grammar from 1869. This was the year the Heinz Company was founded. Now, I guess most of you will have to take my word for it, but the messages in old Swedish are quite entertaining to say the least…just as they would be in English from 1869.
If you’re lacking inspiration as to what to say there are also a number of pre-written messages to choose from on the topics of “Party Invitation”, “I love you”, “Relationship Breakup”, “I am pregnant”, “I’ve lost my cat”, “Need a flat”, etc.
What I like about this idea and the underlying thinking is that it uses social media for what it’s mean to be: social media. Not as yet another media channel to stick a logo in (or set up a fan page on that about 17 people read). This idea finds a way for Heinz to be a part of the conversations people are already having, making them better and more entertaining.
Utility, not distraction.

I’m not sure I have anything to say at the top of my head that isn’t just yet another version of what we’ve all seem in 39 different presentations already. But I’ll try as soon as I can find the time. Busy on all fronts at the moment.
